7 of the Most Common Dating Profile Mistakes & How To Fix Them

We’ve looked at countless numbers of dating profiles – not nearly enough good ones – took copious notes, and are providing you with our dating profile common mistake cheat sheet. Do not, we repeat, do not, make these mistakes in your dating profile.

Common Dating Profile Mistakes (and how to fix them)

Common Dating Profile Mistake #7: Too many group photos

Don’t make it difficult for your potential date to get an understanding of what you look like. If you only have group photos it’s hard to determine who you are in the group and that’s reason enough to swipe left. Keep it simple – solo pictures work the best and if you have to, include no more than 2 group pictures.

Common Dating Profile Mistake #6: Family photos

Don’t include them. You are not auditioning your family for your date’s approval so don’t share family pictures until you are at that point in the relationship. Treat these pictures like baby pictures, they don’t come out until you’re past the first couple months with someone. Sharing family pictures on a dating profile – even if you look great – is still not the right move. Save these personal moments for date conversations.

Common Dating Profile Mistake #5: Couple photos

Regardless of who is the other 1/2 of the couple, stop this right now! We don’t care if they are family members, your best friend’s spouse, or your niece/nephew. There are plenty of other pictures that should be used instead of a couple shot. If you don’t have quality pictures, schedule your dating profile photoshoot to capture your best angles.

Common Dating Profile Mistake #4: Not filling out your dating profile bio or questions

Put the effort in to fill out your dating profile completely. Your future date will be interested in getting to know you and starting the relationship by withholding information in your profile sends a negative message. If you’re on a dating app take the time to fill it out completely – what you put into your dating profile is what you’ll get out of it. Better bios and better pictures will get more right swipes.

Common Dating Profile Mistake #3: Sharing your profile with an ex

Your dating profile is your opportunity to present yourself to strangers. Keep in mind, your goal is to get a date with someone and your tools include a handful of pictures and a brief bio. Capitalize on the opportunity to keep the focus on you entirely, don’t share the limelight with a picture of you & someone of the other gender.

Common Dating Profile Mistake #2: Blurry photos

There is no reason to include a blurry picture. We want to see what you look like. Save the artsy pictures for your Instagram and connect it to your profile. At this point, most dating apps let you comment and engage with social media pictures if you are just dying to include that picture

Common Dating Profile Mistake #1: Hiding your face

We want to see what you look like – take off your sunglasses, take off your hat, and please step out of the shadow. Clear pictures of your face will leave a better impression.

AND, SWIPE RIGHT’s official dating profile POWER MOVE tip

  • Take advantage of the picture captions – use these captions as an opportunity to share more about yourself. Provide context around the picture, share a witty comment, tell a story with your profile, use your creativity – your profile is the bait, reel them in. (See that fishing reference? It’s the only time fishing should ever be brought up in a dating profile.) If the dating app provides space to express yourself on your dating profile, use it!

There you go, don’t forget to report back. We love hearing from you.
